The Blue Persian cat is one of the more exotic varieties from the Persian family. Throughout its history the blue Persian has been popular amongst the aristocrats of 19th century Europe and today it is a much sought after variety by cat lovers across the world.
The true blue breed standard
The CFA has set the standard when it comes to blue Persian cats. According to the organization it is the lighter shade of blue which is the most desirable tint in the blue Persian cat. The ideal blue Persian should have the same tone running through from the tip of its nose to the end of its tail. Color variations in the blue Persian are not considered to be an appreciable quality. So much so that a darker shade that is running monotone is much more preferable than a lighter shade that has tonal variation. The nose leather and the paw pads of the blue Persian are also supposed to be blue.
One of the most striking features of the blue Persian cat is its contrasting brilliant copper eyes. The eyes give the Persian a rather commanding and some times haunting appeal. Nonetheless the above mentioned qualities are what make up a breed standard blue Persian.
Often time we find people referring to the blue Persian as gray. But this is not the official term for the cat and it would be incorrect to name it so. The blue Persian falls within the solid color division set by the CFA.
The blue Persian has a heavy boned structure and is generally well proportioned. The sweet expression on the face with soft and round lines is what gives character to the blue Persian. Couple that up with the copper eyes set wide apart from other and the large head and you have a rather unique looking cat.
The heavy bone structure and the muscular body of the blue Persian is overshadowed by its long hair coat. Due to its heavy haired coat the blue Persian has an extremely fluffy appeal when in truth it has a very different body structure underneath.
Maintaining the beauty of the blue coat
Unlike other short haired cats that can maintain their own coat, the Persian cat is incapable of doing so. Hence you will have to put in a considerable amount of effort to maintain the beauty of your blue Persian cat’s coat.
One of the ways in which you can accentuate the beauty of your blue Persian cat is by giving its tail a little bit of grooming. You can take a little bit of hair from the tip of its hair. This will give it a foreshorten appearance which will create an illusion of a far more bushy tail. This is one of the things that can really accentuate the appearance of the blue Persian.
Removing unwanted hairs, regular bathing and daily brushing are other things that can help maintain the beauty of your blue Persian’s coat.
