Interested in grooming Persian cats? Find out what you need to do in order to keep your Persian in good shape…
Many people are attracted by the cute and cuddly looks of Persian cats. However, when potential buyers discover the grooming requirements of the Persian many back out. As much as the Persian cat makes a great pet only those people willing to take on the grueling task of grooming the Persian cat should keep them as a pet.
Persian Cat Hair Grooming
The long hair coat of the Persian is probably its most appealing feature. The Persian is available in a wide range of exotic colored coats and in order for it to retain its beauty the cat owners need to take good care of its hair. The health of the cat’s hair has a profound effect on the life expectancy of the cat which is why it is all the more a serious issue.
When it comes to maintaining the health of the Persian’s hair you need to feed it with a diet that has certain specific nutrients. The diet should include a sufficient amount of fatty acids, vitamin B and zinc.
Brushing the hair
First of all you need to know that Persian cats need to be groomed everyday. This is not to say you need to give it a complete bath everyday but you do need to brush its on a regular basis.
You will need a metal comb to brush the hair of your Persian cat. Specially crafted metal combs for grooming the Persian cat are available in the market. Since the Persian has a coat of long hair when you don’t brush it regularly it gets tangled up in knots. This leads to hair balls which can be a menacing problem.
Bathing the Persian cat
While most cats can keep themselves clean and maintain their coat of hair, unfortunately the Persian cat cannot. This means that you will have to give it a bath every now and then to keep its hair healthy and clean. Bathing can be a rather challenging task but nonetheless it should not be overlooked as it is extremely important for maintaining the cat’s health.
If you want your cat to get comfortable with the bathing process then you should start giving her baths from a young age. In order to make the bathing process easier you should always brush your cat’s hair before you wash it. You can untangle its hair using a wide toothed comb. The loose hair can be removed with a wire brush. All knots should be removed before the bathing process begins. You will need a fine toothed comb and a pair of scissors to do this job.
Persians have extremely delicate skin but their hair demands conditioning. For this purpose you will have to purchase especially formulated conditioning shampoos for Persian cats. Use the least amount of shampoo so that it comes off easily.
Cleaning the eyes
Persian cats have gooey eyes that need regular cleaning. You will need to use a warm wet compress on its eyes for a couple of seconds for eye drainage. You may also make use of eye cleaner solutions for taking care of its eyes. Lastly you need to clean the cat’s ears with cotton balls dipped in baby oil. To put the final touches on the Persian cat you can blow dry its hair while combing it with a wide toothed brush.
