The need of Training Collars for Dogs

It is best not to get bogged down by that at first; once you have selected the variety of training collar that best suits your situation you can browse the rest of the options

With so many options to choose from, the average dog owner can find himself or herself overwhelmed, but if the specific needs of each dog owner are clearly identified, then the selection becomes much easier.

One of the most important parts of training is the selection of the right training collar. While it’s true that every collar was made with the intention of training, each one differs in its approach. Electronic collars are the first option to come to mind. This type of collars deliver a harmless but surprising static shock to the dog when it incurs in bad behavior.

Selecting the most approrpiate type of collar for training is crucial. Designers, of course, create every single training collar with the intention of modifying a dog’s behavior, but they greatly differ in how they go about it. One of the most common options is the electronic collar. The electronic collar gives the dog a small, harmless, jolt of static electricity whenever the dog misbehaves.

Choke collars are another option. These collars will constrict the dog’s neck when force is applied, either by the owner or by the dog’s resistance. Dog owners must learn carefully how to use such collars, however, in order to avoid really hurting the dog. Lastly, there are citronella collars, which spray the muzzle of a dog with a lemon-like odor, either automatically or with the push of a button from a remote control.

Regardless of the training collar used, it’s extremely important to let the dog know which are the exact results expected from the training in a way that it’s very clear. Without clear instructions on what the animal has to do in order to avoid punishment, training will only result in fear or aggressiveness. In the end, the training collar will slowly become obsolete as the dog assimilates the new behavior and incorporates it as normal part of its life.
