The long haired white Persian cat is perhaps the most exquisite of all the varieties despite the simplicity of its color. The alluring appeal of the white coat coupled with its fullness and quality surely makes the white Persian one of the most beautiful cats out there.
White Persian variety
There are two different kinds of white Persian cats that fall under this category. The main difference lies in their eye color. Whereas one sports a set of romantic blue eyes the other has a deep orange dazzling pair. In some cases interbreeding also produces a white Persian with two different eye colors from the two sets.
Origins of the White Persian
There are strong evidences to suggest that the white Persian cat was first developed in the Middle East region. It was not until two hundred years ago that the white Persian made its way to France. It is from here that the white Persian was introduced into England where it stepped foot in the early 1800’s. Interestingly enough the white Persian was known as the Angora during its early days.
White Persian cat structure
Persian cat breeders have been working to improve the white Persian category for years. The breed standard white Persian that you will be able to find today should have a short backed structure with rather large sized bones. Similarly it has a large head when it comes to cats and has its eyes set up way apart from each other. The eye color of white Persian cats is known for its high intensity whereas the eyes themselves are relatively large and overwhelmingly round. The white Persian has a short stub nose which is wide and is considered to have decent nostrils. By and large these are the qualities that you will find in the breed standard white Persian cat.
White Persian cat popularity
There is no doubt about the fact that the white Persian cat is a hot favorite amongst the cat lovers. It is however the orange eye version which is most popular amongst the white Persian variety. Records go to show that the orange eyed white Persian cat has made it big in cat shows many more times than its blue eyed counterpart. One of the reasons why the blue eyed version is not as popular is because getting the desired deep blue shade is quite a difficult process for Persian cat breeders.
As it is the white Persian cat is quite a challenging cat when it comes to breeding and showing this feline. There are a lot of technical issues involved with the breeding process of the white Persian which is what makes the true white Persian even more valuable.
The white Persian comes in a variety of shades of white which can range from a sparkling unbelievably clean white to a more pale yellowish white color. You will also be able to find a considerable amount of variety with regards to the texture of their coat. While some may have a silky and smooth long haired coat others may sport a wooly textured white coat. These are some of the things you need to take into consideration when going for a white Persian cat.
